Student Essay Competition
Rules and Regulations
Eligibility:
- Radiologic technology student enrolled in a radiography program holding current institutional ACERT membership
Application:
- Applications are available on the ACERT website and in the annual newsletter.
- Applications must be forwarded to the ACERT Executive Committee, along with an electronic copy of the essay, on or prior to the submission deadline date (see application).
Essay:
- All essays must be original. (In the recipient’s own words)
- Essay content must pertain to medical radiology or radiologic science
- The body of all essays will be a minimum of _8_ pages with a maximum of _10_ pages. (Not including title page, abstract, reference page, or appendices)
- The essay must follow either APA or AMA guidelines.
- The body/running head of the essay must contain no evidence of the author’s identity, i.e., name, name of educational
- institution, name of medical institutions associated with, photographs, reference to instructors and/or physicians.
- Manuscript rights will remain with the author. ACERT may publish any and all essay entries in the ACERT annual newsletter and/or on the ACERT website.
Judging:
- A minimum of 3 judges will rate each submission.
- Judges may not rate essays from students of their own programs
The judges shall meet all the following criteria:
- Current institutional or associate membership with ACERT
- Current or retired ARRT registered radiologic technologists
- Current or retired radiologic sciences educators
- Familiar with the subject matter to be judged. (It is acceptable for a judge to use resource persons to comment on the validity of the technical content.)
- Rating will be done using the ACERT Essay Competition Grading Sheet provided
- The judges’ decisions are final.
Awards consist of:
- First
- Second
- Third
- These awards are made from conference funds unless a sponsor is found and are subject to change annually.
- Awards will be announced and given to the recipients at the President’s Luncheon of the annual ACERT conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
